Premium Payment

It is not mandatory to upload the specimen check into the application, but we strongly recommend that you do so. Too many first premiums come back NSF due to a mistake in transcribing account numbers. Help us make it easier for you to issue contracts!

First Premium in Simplified Issue

  • Monthly PAD, Annual PAD or Annual Cheque;
  • The first premium is ALWAYS collected within 48 hours of application approval, unless there are delivery requirements. With delivery requirements, the first premium will be collected within 48 hours of receiving the requirements;
  • Therefore, the “pay on delivery” option is not available. The contract is payable on issue and the contract package is sent after the first premium is paid; if a client requests to delay the collection of the first premium, delay your own electronic signature. The application remains valid for up to 30 days for signature. We cannot delay the payment of the first premium when the application is submitted.

Subsequent Premiums

  • Monthly PAD, Annual PAD or Annual Check;
  • The default PAD date is the policy effective date, unless you specify another date on the application. Credit card payments are not accepted.

Insurance History and MIB

  • We always check your client’s MIB history;
  • Therefore, at the time of application, we ask you to document their insurance history. These questions are not part of the underwriting process, but they allow us to validate the MIB file with the answers in order to issue the policy more quickly;

If the MIB is negative:

  • the contract is generally issued within 48 hours;
  • you will receive a notice stating that the first premium will be deducted and that the policy will be put into effect once we have received it.

If the MIB is positive, but not related to our eligibility questions:

  • contract is issued as if the MIB is negative.

If the MIB is positive and is related to our eligibility questions:

  • underwriting will request additional information to allow you to explain to us why the client answered “no.” You can respond to us at ind.newbusiness@uvinsurance.ca. In most cases, the information is sufficient and the policy is put into effect;
  • in some cases, underwriting will request additional details from the MIB because there is still doubt. Once we receive the details, you will receive the decision in your portal.

Notice of Replacement

You may upload a completed and signed replacement notice directly to the electronic application and do not need to email it to us afterwards. If you do not upload it, receipt of the completed and signed notice will be part of the delivery requirements. You may send it to ind.newbusiness@uvinsurance.ca.

Contract Delivery Options

You have three choices for contract delivery:

  • Electronic: The contract will be uploaded in your client’s My Universe portal and a login will be required to access it;
  • Paper: The contract will be sent to your general agent for delivery;
  • Electronic and paper: The contract will be uploaded in your client’s My Universe portal and a login will be required to access it, and a paper copy will be sent to your general agent for delivery.

In all cases, the advisor has access to a PDF copy of the contract in the My Universe portal.

Multi-contract Discount

  • An annual discount of $15 or a monthly discount of $1.35 is available when more than one eligible contract is in effect, including the first contract, except for Early Learning and Juvenile 30/100 ;
  • Simply check the box in your illustration, if the criteria are met;
  • The discount is acquired for the duration of the contract. It is not adjusted in case of breach of conditions and if one of the contracts is cancelled, the $15 discount remains even if there is only one contract left;
  • The same address must be used for all contracts, insureds, owners and payers. There must be: a parental relationship (spouse or children) between the insureds of the contracts or a business relationship (partners) while sharing an identical address between the insureds of the contracts;
  • The contracts must be in payment of premiums and not paid up;
  • The discount is available regardless of how the premiums are paid (cheque or PAD).

Electronic Signatures

  • Electronic signatures are accepted on all of our individual insurance documents, provided you use an electronic signature recognized by a secure hyperlink either through your CRM or another platform (iGeny, Adobe Sign, SignNow, DocuSign, etc.) ;
  • The audit report is required and the advisor’s signature must appear in the audit report;
  • If you are using an external platform, we strongly recommend that you use a password to open the document and that you send this password to your client by means other than email.

    • If underwriting accepts the endorsement, it will be issued with an exclusion on the condition that was answered “yes”;
    • In the e-App, My Universe will tell you right away if the rider is declined or if you can proceed based on a “yes” question. If you can proceed, moderate your client’s expectations by preparing them for an exclusion or decline following the analysis.
